The lawyer for Facebook said that since then the company has made changes to prevent future misuse of this kind. Cambridge Analytica failed, but may rise from the ashes.
The controversy occurred when a researcher from a third party used a’ personality quiz’ to collect Facebook user data. Some of this data was then exchanged with Cambridge Analytica, a political strategist who used it to influence the U.S. presidential election in 2016. The most odd aspect was that the data obtained was not limited to those who took the quiz: some data belonging to their Facebook friends were also included.
Facebook says that in the run-up to the US presidential election in November 2020, it is now much better prepared to fight election interference.
